During her teen years Jo learned of design careers through family and friends, then deciding to pursue her degree in Interior Design from Virginia Tech. Her internships with Mildred Sheffield Stanger, past President of ASID – VA and college internship led her into Corporate and Residential design. With marriage and 3 children Jo chose self employment for time flexibility and project choices in Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia and Pensylvania. Jo is active volunteering through her church and various community groups. She relishes spending time with her husband, inspirational mother of 92, children and their spouses, and 3 grandsons while in Richmond and Charlottesville, especially outdoors.
Jo has served in 5 different positions for ASID Virginia chapter since joining in 2007 as a professional member. Serving others through the American Society of Interior Designers keeps her learning and sharing (focused on Aging – Senior Living, Universal and Sustainable design), engaged with the industry across the country, encouraged and taught by invaluable peers, and blessed with friendships.
